Growing up in an artistic environment in Switzerland, Christopher Schaller started to discover the visual world at a very young age. Inspired by his father and other artists, he became passioned in drawing and sculpturing. Later hiking, climbing, mountaineering and simply being surrounded by nature became another major element in his life. With the desire to capture the beautiful and fleeting moments of the outdoors, his interest towards photography grew. Soon after he received his first camera, photography became his main artistic medium of expression.

Drawn by creating new ideas, Christopher started his studies at the écal (University of Art and Design, Lausanne, Switzerland) in industrial design, which allowed him to work on artistic and conceptual skills. A year later he decided to change his educational direction to study at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland, where he earned a masters degree in secondary education level. When he started his career at an NGO for a long term project in the rainforest of Sumatra, the desire to document his impressions sparked a strong passion for photography. It took some more years until he decided to work as an independent photographer.

Curious and eager to explore, Christopher seeks opportunities to get to know distant territories for a long period of time. Today, he is traveling as a nomad through Europe by bicycle with his partner in search of new landscapes and cultures.

The specialization in black and white photography, enables him to entirely focus on the subject, the light, shapes and the energy of the moment. To him, the lack of color is an abstraction and an advantage. It gives space for individual interpretation which renders an image more personal and more powerful.
